Optional Activities

New Zealand has so many amazing, diverse activity options and we want to make it easy for you to experience as many as you'd like.

Each trip is bursting with as much activity and adventure as you want, and each tour is carefully structured so you can pick and choose the things you love to fill your day. There's never any pressure to participate so whether you enjoy dolphin swimming & sailing or want to give bungy jumping & skydiving a go, you are guaranteed to enjoy heaps of once in a lifetime experiences.

Optional activities are paid for as you travel, and you'll be given the options a few days in advance so you can have a think about what you'd like to book.

Our guides don't get commission. Unlike some operators none of our guides are paid commission on activities - that means we don't hard sell and you get plenty of choice.

We always have free alternatives. Enjoy a hike, take out the bodyboards, use the volleyball or just sit and relax - there are always free alternatives.

Auckland

This is where many will start and finish their Flying Kiwi tour. If you're looking for something to do before or after your trip, Auckland city has some some excellent attractions including the waterfront, cafes, museums, galleries and parks. If you want to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city, Waiheke island is a great place to explore and an easy ferry ride from the city. It's got some awesome hikes, beaches, wildlife, restaurants and it's famous for wine tasting tours. If you'd like to go and see Hobbiton, we recommend booking a day trip from Auckland at the start or finish of your trip as this is the easiest way to get there!

Rotorua

Rotorua, sometimes affectionately known as ‘Roto-Vegas’ because there's always so much going on. Enjoy an evening of Maori culture, explore the fantastic mountain bike trails, enjoy relaxing geothermal hot pools, try exhilarating whitewater rafting, explore Geothermal wonders and explosive geysers, get your adrenaline pumping with an eco-zipline tour, or enjoy a walk round the park and the lakeside. There really is something for everyone!

Wellington

Our capital city is located on the shores of the Cook Strait, which is the departure point for the South Island. Home to New Zealand’s national museum Te Papa, which is renowned for being innovative and fun - we highly recommend a visit. Wellington also boasts stunning Botanical Gardens, Lord of the Ring tours and has a great cafe culture - many Wellingtonians will tell you they serve the best cup of coffee in the whole country!

Kaikoura

For those looking for the ultimate wildlife experience, look no further! The Kaikoura coast has so much wildlife, from playful dusky dolphins and NZ fur seals to the majestic humpback whales, board a boat or kayak and get amongst it. This coast also offers great Deep Sea fishing or you can jump on a scenic flight to take in the views from above.

Queenstown

Otherwise known as The Adventure Capital of NZ this stunning idyllic lakeside town will get your blood pumping! Queenstown is the home of adventure sports and you will find something to satisfy every taste here. From fast river jetboating and skydiving to white water rafting, horse riding or challenging mountain bike trails. This is also the home of bungy, and the best place in the world to try it! We enjoy quite a bit of time here to give you the chance to experience the best of it.
