Top Destinations for Adrenaline Seekers
Want to get as many thrills in one place? New Zealand has two destinations that are must dos for an adrenaline rush. Queenstown in the South Island (world famous for trill seeking) and Rotorua on the North Island.
Queenstown: The Adventure Capital
Known as the "Adventure Capital of the World," Queenstown is a hub of adventure activities set against the breathtaking backdrop of Lake Wakatipu and the Southern Alps. This vibrant town is where the first commercial bungy jumping and jet boating experiences were born, and the spirit of adventure is still very much alive.
For Adrenaline Junkies:
- Bungy jumping with AJ Hackett Bungy. AJ Hackett Bungy is a world-famous name when it comes to adventure activities. You can choose from the Nevis bungy or the slightly less scary Kawarau Bridge for spectacular views all around.
- Experience the world-famous Shotover Jet, a high-speed ride through a narrow canyon.
- Tackle the slopes at world-class ski fields like Coronet Peak and The Remarkables mountain range in winter.
- Try your hand at canyoning, white water rafting, or even skydiving over the stunning landscape.
- Brave one of the world's steepest ziplines at the top of the Skyline Gondola, a short walk from the town centre. For those who want to keep their feet closer to the floor, you can also try the Luge there.
- Hike one of the many stunning trails, from the challenging Ben Lomond Track to the more leisurely Queenstown Hill Walkway.

Rotorua: The North Island Adventure Activity Capital
Rotorua, nestled in the heart of New Zealand's North Island, is a city built on a powerful geothermal wonderland and rich Māori culture. It's a place where the earth steams, bubbles, and roars, offering a unique blend of natural wonders and thrilling activities.
Geothermal Marvels and Relaxation:
- Walk through otherworldly landscapes at Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland, famous for its vibrant Champagne Pool and the daily eruption of the Lady Knox Geyser.
- Visit Te Puia, where you can witness the mighty Pōhutu Geyser, the largest active geyser in the Southern Hemisphere, and explore bubbling mud pools.
- Unwind and rejuvenate in the natural hot springs and therapeutic mud baths at places like Hell's Gate or the Polynesian Spa.
Adventure and Thrills:
- Take on the world's highest commercially rafted waterfall, Tutea Falls, on the Kaituna River.
- Soar through a prehistoric forest on an award-winning zipline adventure with Rotorua Canopy Tours.
- Roll downhill inside a giant inflatable ball at ZORB Rotorua, the birthplace of this wacky sport.
- Race down mountain biking trails in the world-renowned Whakarewarewa Forest, which offers over 150 km of tracks for all skill levels.

Rotorua Canopy Tours
If you've been searching for an experience that combines incredible views, high-flying thrills, and a strong connection with nature you're exploring, you've found it. Rotorua Canopy Tours isn't just a zip line; it's a journey into a magical, ancient world. You'll conquer long, fast zip lines, cross swing bridges suspended high above the forest floor, and even rappel to the ground. It's a full-body adventure that's as exhilarating as it is beautiful.
The best part about it is you're supporting ecology in action. Every ticket helps fund their pest-control efforts, protecting Rotorua's stunning ecosystem and ensuring that future generations can experience its wonder. You get to have the time of your life while making a genuine difference.

Skydiving
With 4 different locations to choose from on our Ultimate Explorer Tour, it's a fairly common question about where the best place is to skydive in New Zealand. The locations are: Taupo, Queenstown, Fox Glacier and Abel Tasman. Each skydive location is unique in its own, and this might help you in deciding where you would like to jump out of a plane from!
Taupo Tandem Skydive – Located in the central North Island and surrounded by active volcanoes, need I say more? Enjoy the views of Lake Taupo, Mt Ruapehu, Mt Tongariro and Mt Ngaruahoe as your backdrop at the Southern end of the Lake.
NZONE Queenstown – Queenstown, the adrenaline capital of THE WORLD! Your plane ride will give you a nice close-up view of the famous The Remarkables mountain range, before dropping you out of the plane right over the top of Lake Wakatipu.
Skydive Fox Glacier – With a backdrop of the Southern Alps, Aoraki/Mt Cook, Glaciers, Rain Forest and the Ocean, the skydive pretty much sells itself!
Skydive Abel Tasman – Located in the sunniest area of the country, you are almost guaranteed 100% all go on the weather front. Including the park in your view you will also get glimpses of fruit orchards, Tasman bay coast line, the North Island, and if you're lucky, Mt Taranaki, a single Volcano on the western side of the North Island.
So, where is the best place to Skydive? I'll leave that up to you to decide.

Bungy Jumping
With Bungy Jumping being invented in New Zealand, it is a 100% must-do and an iconic activity in NZ. If you're gonna do it, you might as well do the big one! And you should totally do The Nevis Bungy, New Zealand's highest bungy jump, whilst touring around New Zealand. Hanging at 134m in the Nevis valley, this jump is sure to give you all the feels! The jump is scary enough as it is but get this, you have to take a little cable cart out across the valley to meet the jump platform that's suspended by cable wires right in the centre! And just in case you were trying to be one of the brave, the floor is made out of glass! Are you ready to take the plunge?

Skippers Canyon Jet Boat
Skippers Canyon Jet Boat is awesome! Not only do you get to go screaming down Shotover River where in places the water is only 5 inches deep, getting so close to the canyon walls that if you stuck your arm out you probably wouldn’t have it any more and doing 360 degree spins throughout your journey, you also get to drive down one of the top 10 most dangerous roads in the world! Now if that doesn’t kick start your adrenaline then I don’t think anything will. Travelling at speeds of up to 80kmph through some of the narrower canyons on the Shotover River you will also get the chance to see a Lord of The Rings film location and learn a bit about New Zealand's gold mining history.

Canyoning
Canyoning in Abel Tasman is an epic series of abseiling, cliff jumps, natural rock slides and zip lines to make your way through a canyon that is completely inaccessible without an expert guide, the ropes, harnesses and wet-suits needed to get to the bottom. A full on day including walking, swimming, dunking under waterfalls and conquering fears! This amazing activity is located right in the middle of Abel Tasman National Park and you will definitely not be disappointed by the views and your stoke levels!

White Water Rafting
Ready for an adventure that will blow your hair back and leave you breathless? New Zealand isn't just a pretty face; it's an adrenaline junkie's paradise, and white water rafting experiences are second to none! Imagine a thrilling blend of heart-pounding rapids, breathtaking scenery, and memories that'll last a lifetime. There is something for everyone, from gentle floats perfect for families to roaring rapids that will challenge even the most seasoned thrill-seekers.
A great mixture of teamwork, adrenaline, fun and terrifying all at the same time! Choose your level from 3 – 5, no experience necessary, and work your way down, what usually in New Zealand, is a glacial feed river. Your expert guide will give you all the instructions you need, so as long as you listen to him it should run pretty smoothly. Don't get me wrong, though, it definitely is a workout! You'll come out on the other end, wet, excited, pumped up and ready for more! There are a number of options to raft on the Flying Kiwi trips, but some of our favourites are Rangitata, Queenstown and Rotorua.
