Take an Extended Break on your Trip
Our trips are designed to give you the time you need to truly appreciate the places we visit and we often spend 2/3 days in the most stunning spots, However, for those with a little more time on their hands there is the option to take extended breaks for no additional cost, (but
should be pre-arranged), they can leave our trip at any point and join the next
trip 9 days later. Many people who have longer than a month in NZ take this
option and it makes for a very memorable journey with excellent coverage of NZ.
All our trips are well paced and comprehensive but this is a good
option if the passenger has longer time available and wants to do additional
track walking or catch up with people in a particular area and just join the next trip 9 days later.
South Island Extended Breaks
The are more
options to do the 9-day break on the South Island and
these are some of the recommended breaks;
Stewart Island
Depart and rejoin at point 14 of our
planner at Gore. Catch the Intercity bus to Invercargill. Take the flight
or ferry to Stewart
Island where the Rakiura Track (3 -4
days hike) is recommended. Half Moon Bay (Stewart Island's
Capital) is worth staying in for a couple of days. Alternatively you
could make your way to Te Anau (the Kepler track is worthwhile). Rejoin our
group in Te Anau on point 14 of our planner.
Queenstown
Depart and rejoin at point 17 or 18 of our
planner to spend an extra 9 days around this area or around Glenorchy to do
extensive back country hiking or rafting trips (the Greenstone and Caples loop
is an option).
Nelson -
Abel Tasman and Golden bay and the Marlborough Sounds
There are three National
Parks within an hour and a half of Nelson
Depart and rejoin at point 24 of our planner to
discover Golden Bay. Golden Bay is a very scenic
area full of beaches. The journey starts with a 700 meter climb to the Takaka
hill but incredible decent to the Takaka Valley! Among the things
to see and do is Pupu fresh water springs (the clearest in the world), miles of
Golden beaches and interesting alternative locals, cafes and bars. There is
also the Heaphy Track on the West Coast or the Abel Tasman Track.
Depart and rejoin at point 9 or 25 of
our planner to walk, cycle or take a sailing or Kayak trip in these extensive
sounds. There are many walks such as the Queen Charlotte track or Nydia track
which can be walked or cycled and overnight or day kayak trips. The whole area
is very picturesque with much emphasis on water an walking tracks. Base
yourself in Picton to explore this area or chill out at one of the lodges
accessible by water taxi only such Hopewell Backpackers.
